We tried to re-sod in the spring of 2005 in hopes of strengthening the turf, but the lack of sun and the summer sprinklers again
made the backyard a mess. The dogs destroyed it again and the daily dog paw cleaning was a real frustrating part of each day. Our
daughter was reaching the age where she would want to be outside and we felt that there was no hope for us to be able to enjoy our
beautiful back yard because of the terrible lawn.
I read an article in the San Jose Mercury News about the use of "FieldTurf" in residential yards and I became intrigued about the
possibility of installing it in the back yard. I had been familiar with the new generation of artificial turf in my job as the
baseball coach at Archbishop Mitty High School and had seen FieldTurf go from a novelty to an acceptable addition to the quality
of baseball fields used for all levels from Little Leaguers through the major leagues. So I knew how wonderful it was to play
on and how much it looked like real grass. I checked the website listed in the Mercury and poked around a bit and made a few
calls to the customers that were listed as references. I was not concerned about the look or feel, since I was used to that in
athletics, but I was concerned about the dogs and the impact they may have on the turf.
Well, I had a representative come over and give me a pitch and we decided to put the turf in our back yard. The installation was a
snap. Two days and it was in and ready to use. The staff was friendly and helpful. The work crew was professional and tidy. All I can
say is that it is the BEST decision that I have ever made as a homeowner. First, the turf looks incredible and if we don’t tell
guests that it is not real grass, they never even think to ask…they just comment on our beautiful lawn. Then, when they see
that it is artificial, they are instantly amazed by how nice it looks.
