Recovering From A Home Renovation

Recovering From A Home Renovation http://www.heavenlygreens.com/blog/recovering-from-a-home-renovation @heavenlygreensA home renovation can be both exciting and stressful. Not only are you looking forward to a new and exciting look for your home, you must also be prepared for the hard work and clean up you will have to do once everything is finished. Recovering from a home renovation is relatively simple if you have a plan of action in place and follow it throughout the entire process.

Preparing for Down Time

One of the most difficult aspects of planning a home renovation is preparing for the time when you will not be able to use that particular area of your home. For example, if you are renovating the bathroom or the kitchen, you will need to make alternative arrangements for the activities normally performed in those rooms. Most homes have more than one bathroom so making plans to renovate one bathroom at a time ensures one will always be available. Renovating the kitchen on the other hand, may mean grilling out for the next week or longer and using paper plates, disposable cups and plastic cutlery to reduce the need to do dishes.

Know How You Want to Decorate

The next main stressor has to do with decorating after the actual work is completed. Painting and accessorizing should be finished before carpeting and furniture are put back into the room to prevent having to move them around once decorating starts. The easiest way to prepare for this step of the process is to have everything designed and ready to go once the actual renovations are finished.

Purchase the paint, wallpaper and any other decorative pieces prior to the beginning of the work. This allows you to continue the job from start to finish without any waiting. In some cases, part of the decorative aspects of the job can be completed in conjunction with the actual renovations leaving only minor additions to be put in place once the majority of the work has been finished.

Get Ready for the Clean Up

After everything has been finished, the clean up begins. During most renovations, extra materials are left over once the job has been completed. You can either choose to store them for later projects, give them to a charitable organization that renovates homes or dispose of them. No matter what you choose to do with them, they must be removed or put away so the rest of the clean up can take place. Once the materials are gone, you can then focus on picking up any dirt or debris that was left behind such as wood shavings, dust, paint cans and calking tubes.

If you know in advance that there will be an abundance of debris, it might be a good idea to have a small dumpster delivered to the home prior to the start of the project. This allows the old materials and any waste generated through the cutting or shaping of materials to be thrown away immediately after it is created. Dumpsters are usually rented for several days at a time, so it will be available for most of the project.

Recovering after a home renovation is less stressful when it is planned into the process as a whole. The more efficient the planning, the easier it is to move forward without incurring an obstacles or major drawbacks. Having a contingency plan in place for when minor mishaps do occur, will help to keep the project moving forward without creating any extra mess or confusion. If handled correctly, the recovery process can include spending your time relaxing and enjoying all of the rewards of your planning and hard work.
