Five Ways To Save Time On Yard Work

Five Ways To Save Time On Yard Work http://www.heavenlygreens.com/blog/five-ways-to-save-time-on-yard-work @heavenlygreensYard work is tedious and can take several hours a week to perform. Mowing and trimming alone can take 4 or 5 hours for a large yard. Smaller yards can be taken care of much more quickly, but the amount of upkeep can still be somewhat overwhelming. It doesn't matter what size of lawn you have, you can save precious time by following a few simple steps. A natural grass lawn will always require some type of maintenance, but it is up to you how you manage your time.

Delegate Tasks

Probably the easiest way to save time when it comes to yard work is to delegate each task to a different family member. If each person takes a particular chore and works on it until it is finished, the amount of time it takes to tackle even the largest yard, would be dramatically reduced. Even small children can be include in the workforce by giving them chores that are age appropriate. Some chores may not be able to be performed along with others, so dividing up the tasks and then preparing a schedule may help to make things go faster.

Plan Ahead

If you do yard work on a particular day or adhere to any type of schedule, make sure to always plan ahead and be prepared to start the task on time. Part of the planning stage includes making sure you have enough gas, grass seed, fertilizer, trimmer line and various other things you normally need to maintain a healthy green lawn. If you delegate your tasks to children and other family members, make sure they will be available when you need them to complete their part of the job.

Maintain Lawn Equipment

Make sure all of your lawn equipment is regularly checked and maintained. This includes changing the oil, checking for leaks, making sure the tires have adequate pressure, blades are sharpened and there is enough trimmer line to complete the trimming and edging. Always make sure that all gas powered engines are regularly tuned up for maximum power and efficiency. Even though lawn equipment is only used a few times a month, it should be just as carefully maintained as your automobile to prevent breakdowns. Every time a tune up is performed, make sure to check any belts or other pieces that may show signs of wear and tear. If any are present make arrangements to replace them to prevent any delays.

Landscape Difficult Areas

If you have areas in your yard that are time consuming and difficult to maintain, try landscaping the area. Clear away the grass, rocks and debris, add a few pavers or wooden beams to outline the area and fill with gravel or mulch to avoid having to mow or trim in the area. You can include statues, flowering plants, decorative grasses, fountains or ponds. Fountains and ponds that use filters and pumps may add slightly to the work load, but in the end it may be worth it if it saves time in other areas.

Install Artificial Turf

If you want to avoid lawn maintenance all together, you can always remove the natural grass and install artificial turf. Artificial turf requires little to no maintenance and can stand up to several years of use. If you do not want to convert the entire lawn, you can use artificial turf for dog runs, putting greens and pool areas to reduce the amount of time spent taking care of everything. Artificial turf offers many benefits, one of the most effective is its use in drought stricken areas. Natural grass can costs thousands of dollars to maintain over the years that you own your home. It also requires several hours on a regular basis to maintain a uniform, even look. With artificial turf, you easily save both time and money and can pay more attention to your family and their recreational time.
