How To Prevent Brown Dog Urine Spots On Your Lawn

How To Prevent Brown Dog Urine Spots On Your Lawn http://www.heavenlygreens.com/blog/how-to-prevent-brown-dog-urine-spots-on-your-lawn @heavenlygreensHaving dogs can be extremely hard on a yard. Urine and feces can leave ugly, brown and yellow spots in the yard if a dog frequents the same area over and over again. Over time, the grass will eventually die and it will be extremely hard to get it to grow back because of the pH balance of the soil. If you want to make sure your lawn remains uniformly green and vibrant without having to give away your favorite pet, there are several things you can do.

Build A Dog Run

One of the easiest ways to protect your lawn from ugly brown spots is to build an enclosed dog run. Dog runs can be made with concrete or artificial turf. Those made with artificial turf allow your pet to run and play on a surface much like natural grass. They can lay down in comfort without having debris like twigs and leaves becoming attached to their fur. Dogs can remain in an enclosed dog run or kennel for several hours if there is a dog house or other form of shelter inside. You can give your pet the time they need to run, play and exercise without hurrying them.

Rinse The Area

Another way of avoiding unsightly areas within your yard is to rinse down any area where your pet may relieve themselves. Some pets may not ever seem to go in the same place twice, while others have two or three favorite areas where they go to each and ever time they go outside. If they go in a multitude of places, rinsing the area may not be needed. If they choose their favorites and repeatedly go back, it might be a good idea to thoroughly water the area every few days to reduce the levels of acids and salts that is left behind after the urine evaporates. If they are left to build up, they can not only discolor the grass, but eventually kill it leaving ugly bare spots.

Walk Your Dogs Away From the Yard

Dogs that are kept inside need to be walked on a regular basis. Keeping them on a leash will prevent them from using the same place more than once to relieve themselves. You can lead them to wherever you want them to go. Taking your animals for long walks away from your property will help keep them from soiling your lawn. Always make sure to retrieve any droppings they leave behind while you are out on your walk.

Dog parks and animal runs are ideal areas to walk your pets where you don't have to worry about whether or not your animal urinates any where. The only requirement is that any feces be picked up and removed so that others won't have to worry about it later. Many animal parks have plastic bags and receptacles available to use if you run out or forgot to bring your own.

Replace A Natural Lawn With Artificial Turf

If you have a small yard and can afford the additional expense, replacing a natural grass lawn with artificial turf may be an option. The total cost of the turf may seem expensive, but when divided up over its lifespan, the cost becomes much more reasonable. There will also be less money spent on the upkeep of the lawn. There will be no mowing, trimming or watering. Less time will be spent caring for the yard as well. Artificial turf requires virtually no maintenance. One of the biggest advantages is there will be no need to water the lawn, especially if you live in an area where drought restrictions do not allow it or consider it unnecessary.
