Fall’s #1 Official Sport is football, of course. Soccer is also popular. But lacrosse has come on strong in recent years, and field hockey has seen a rebirth, too. What do they all have in common? Grass. Artificial turf is proven safer for sports play – after all, that’s one of the reasons so many NFL teams swear by it! It’s always in play-perfect condition, too. Just waiting for you to organize a last-minute pick-up game with the family or a full-blown neighborhood tournament.
Isn’t it nice to know that, while you’re having all that fun, you’re also boosting muscle tone and strength, sharpening hand-eye coordination, becoming more flexible, and working to maintain a healthy heart, weight, and blood pressure? Feint to the left, then cheer on your family’s good health!
With enough players, you can form up into teams. But you can have just as much fun with “skills drills” – playing catch with a baseball or football, kicking around a soccer ball, etc. This is also great practice if your kids are on school or rec league fall sports teams.
Beyond lawn sports, you and your family (not to mention your neighbors) might also enjoy something more formal – a bocce ball court, putting green, even a tennis court if you have enough space. Bocce is especially fun for growing families, because you can include all ages. And here at Heavenly Greens we have faux grass options specifically designed for these activities.
While faux grass makes a wonderful playing surface, there are a few things you’ll need to consider so you don’t inadvertently damage your grass. This article about playing volleyball on your synthetic turf has some great tips for all types of lawn-based games.
According to Parenting magazine, some child development experts warn against team sports for 3- and 4-year-olds. Instead, they recommend an emphasis on “free play” and well-rounded exposure to lots of different sports through simple activities such as playing with a ball. This is all the more reason to build a backyard playset for your little ones – making sure you start by installing our FallSoft technology artificial grass underfoot.
It’s not too late to arrange a fall installation, or you can plan your play area over the winter and get started on the work this spring. Hmmmm. Now that you think of it, you could also plan for that new bocce court or putting green that’s sounding better and better.
You could keep score, but who really cares if your team wins or loses, as long as you have fun? That’s one reason you switched to artificial turf, right? So celebrate the good times with barbecued burgers and some hot cider to ward off the cool evening. Then break out the marshmallows and your favorite trimmings for the perfect end to a perfect fall day. Sweet.
