How is Artificial Turf made?

The most common method of manufacturing artificial turf is a blend of polyethylene and polypropylene, silica sand and rubber granules that will give years of grass-like appearance and use, without the regular maintenance of natural grass. The installation process includes a layer of base material, our patented polyethylene and polypropylene blades and our rubber granule infill system. This simple installation will provide the safest, most effective surface. It is resistant to temperature extremes, drains quickly (better than real grass) and is extremely low-maintenance.

What are the four most common uses of artificial turf?

Artificial grass is commonly used for many different purposes, including dogs, outdoor living, yards, and putting greens. People choose artificial turf for dogs and other pet uses because artificial turf is doesn’t create urine stains, dogs don’t dig through it, and because artificial turf’s durability allows it to remain pristine, even with very active dogs.

Another reason that people choose artificial turf is for its multiple uses for outdoor lifestyles. Some people have installed artificial turf around their patios, decks, and pools. We have done installations at locations like Waterworld in Contra Costa County, Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, as well as many other places. There are so many creative applications for artificial turf, and there aren’t many limits to its uses.

A lot of people want artificial turf for their front or back yards. It adds aesthetic beauty to any property, and allows a customer to avoid watering and maintenance costs. When someone switches to artificial turf in their yard, they can save up to 56,000 gallons of water per year, which saves a lot of money.

Many people get artificial turf putting greens installed in their yards. In order to maintain a natural putting green, there are many expenses. With an artificial turf putting green, you can completely customize it, from the shape of the green, to the breaks, and you can even adjust the ball speed. Artificial turf putting greens are great for either leisure golfers or serious golfers looking to improve their short game.

Why should I choose Heavenly Greens?

This is our favorite question! Simply put, FieldTurf is the best product on the market and is the closest alternative to natural grass. A superior product, coupled with professional service, makes Heavenly Greens the ONLY synthetic turf choice for your home or business.

There are various newcomers in the synthetic lawn market. None offer the level of quality and service that Heavenly Greens provides. If you are considering a lesser product, please be certain that you are dealing with a reputable firm that has trained installers, a California Contractor’s License, is insured and bonded. Make sure that you check references and visit installations for signs of durability and quality. Avoid the pain of a lawn that does not live up to your expectations. As with everything else in life, you get what you pay for!

Caring for Artificial Grass

How long does it last?

FieldTurf is expected to have a 20-25 year life expectancy. Our warranty guarantees that it won’t fade or fall apart, and that it will look great for years to come!

What kind of maintenance does it require?

More a matter of keeping clean than maintaining… Remove organic materials from the surface, typically by using a leaf blower. Rakes may be required for removing heavier objects; however, the leaf blower is the ideal tool for general upkeep. A stiff, natural bristle broom can be used to “fluff” high traffic areas.

Does it mildew?

Due to its extremely porous design, typically mold and mildew are not a problem. However in some unique outdoor environments and under the right set of circumstances, it can develop. This is usually a result of standing water or other liquids. This problem can be eliminated with simple treatments with common household products or even by using vinegar applications to the affected area.

Will weeds grow though it?

On some occasions, you may see some popping up along a border, or under the right conditions, weeds have been known to sprout from the top of the turf (inside the sand & rubber infill) which appear to be growing up from the bottom. Both situations can be treated with common weed killers such as Round-Up™ or any other weed deterrent you prefer as these chemicals will not damage the turf.

Can it stain?

We haven’t come across anything that can stain it yet. Sticky spills should be hosed off to prevent them from attracting dirt and bugs. Even paint can be softened with paint remover and then rinsed off.

How hot does it get?

The grass does not stay as cool as natural grass which has water running through it, but it does not absorb and radiate heat like pavement, rock or brick. Even through summer heat, your lawn will remain pleasantly functional. On those days that are exceedingly warm, simply hose off your lawn to cool it down.

Will the turf catch fire?

No. However, the turf is not fire-retardant, but does not have a flash point, it simply melts. In fact, FieldTurf stood up to the challenge of the recent fires in Southern California suffering only minor damage from the heat and embers.

Does the turf mat down?

In high traffic areas the turf can show signs of flattening, this is common with all artificial turf products. Matting is a common issue with high traffic areas or repetitively walked on areas.

Financing Your Investment

What is the square footage price of Heavenly Greens

Our custom installed product cannot realistically be quoted by the square foot. Each lawn is different and Heavenly Greens prices each project individually based on turf type, required ground preparation, size, and numerous other factors.

Any turf company that randomly provides a square footage price over the phone or on the Internet is simply selling outdoor carpet, and not selling the same custom installed projects that we are well known for. In addition, other turf companies frequently charge for the entire amount of turf that will be brought to the job site, including waste, whereas Heavenly Greens only charges for the actual square footage to be installed. Simply receiving a square footage price without a site visit is not a realistic or credible estimate of the true cost.

That is why Heavenly Greens is happy to offer a FREE Design Consultation to provide exact pricing for your commercial or residential landscaping project.

Does Heavenly Greens offer financing?

Heavenly Greens offers a variety of financing options to fit your budget including a deferred payment plan!

What about the warranty?

Heavenly Greens offers the longest and most protective warranty in the business, and covers fading, discoloration, and problems with materials and workmanship.

How much does artificial grass cost?

Think of artificial grass as an investment, not a cost! This investment will increase the value of your property and save you money for years to come. Best of all, unlike most expenses you put into your home, Heavenly Greens will pay for itself over a matter of a few years. For example, if you spend $200 per month on landscaping and water costs, that equates to $2,400 a year. Over five years, your cost is $12,000. The average Heavenly Greens lawn is less expensive than that in the long run!

Artificial turf products have come a long way in the past two decades, both from a manufacturing and distribution standpoint. Nowadays the end user has access to multiple purchasing options, all of which offer various degrees of product quality, installation experience and post installation support/guarantees that can make or break the client's investment.

Choosing a trusted artificial turf contractor is an important aspect to making a confident investment. This is someone that has a minimum of 5-8 years of legal, licensed experience specializing in the installation of artificial turf products for the application you are seeking. When dealing with a reputable turf contractor such as this, you will likely see total project pricing ranging from $8-$25 per square foot, on average.

Key variables that could shift this number one way or the other are:

  • Size of the area (volume)

  • Ground preparation requirements

  • Access to the project site

  • Quality of product

  • Application type (regular landscape turf, putting green, bocce court, etc). Most of the time, recreational applications such as putting greens will be on the higher end of the scale.

How does it affect my property value?

Done correctly, 100 to 200 percent of any investment in quality landscaping will go directly toward the value of your home, according to GE Finance. This does not include the curb appeal, which is immeasurable.

Several of our customers have sold their homes and reported that their Heavenly Greens lawn helped tremendously with the sale of their home. Potential buyers were very excited about the prospect of purchasing a home with a beautiful lawn that required no water or maintenance.

Durability & Performance

How tough is it really?

Simple answer… Consider the fact that FieldTurf is being used by the NFL as their playing surface. These guys are going to be more brutal than your kids, pets, and friends combined!

How well does it drain?

Four words… Better than real grass! FieldTurf’s patented installation process provides five inches of product being installed that drains 40-60 inches per hour. Now with MaxxFlow the drainage is even better.

What about Gophers? Rabbits? Bugs?

Say goodbye to pesky critters! Heavenly Greens will eliminate any troubles you have with rabbits and gophers. Rabbits will no longer ruin your lawn by eating your grass and gophers cannot come up through the turf! Your new lawn will be safer because you will no longer have a need for pesticides. Bugs and insects are history!

Does the sand and rubber infill harm by children or pets?

Our infill is non-toxic and will in no way harm either children or pets if swallowed. We could not have installed Heavenly Greens in the many day care centers and pet facilities, including SPCA and the Humane Society, if there was any concern about toxicity.

Is it dog friendly?

Let’s put it this way… Now you can have a dog AND a lawn! With more than 80 percent of our customers being dog owners and installations in such places as the Humane Society, and many other pet care facilities, Heavenly Greens is the proven perfect solution for your yard and your pets.

Liquids drain right through, droppings can be picked up as they would be with regular grass and/or washed off with a hose, and dogs can’t dig through it. Muddy paw tracks on your carpet will be a thing of the past!
