Bring on the Heat: Questions About Synthetic Turf and San Jose Summers

Kids playing on artificial turf during the summer

Summer is fast approaching in San Jose, and if you are considering getting an artificial lawn installed in your yard, you may have some “hot questions” on your mind right now.

Our Bay Area customers wonder: Will my artificial turf be comfortable and usable in the heat of summer? Is fading an issue in the bright sun? Do I need to worry about any maintenance for my lawn during summer? Heavenly Greens is here to answer those questions for you, and encourage you to make the best choice for yourself and your home.

How hot does artificial grass get?

It’s true that artificial grass does not stay as cool as natural grass, which has water running through it. However, artificial turf will not absorb or radiate heat like pavement, rock or brick. It can be cooled down with sprinklers or quickly hosed down if needed.

Will my synthetic turf fade in the sun?

10 year old artificial turf installation with no fadingFieldTurf as well as our other products have built-in UV protection that allows the turf to hold its color even under the most brutal conditions. Independent studies show that FieldTurf will fade at a rate of much less than 1% per year. This means that after ten years in direct sunlight, any color change will be imperceptible to the human eye. We’ve seen an installation in the harsh and sunny climate of Arizona remain beautiful and lush over the span of a decade! Even with the perpetual sunshine and soaring heat index, these happy lawn-owners can enjoy a beautiful, green, maintenance-free lawn for years to come.

What kind of maintenance is required?

With artificial turf, the issue is really keeping it clean rather than maintenance. Easily remove organic materials from the surface by using a leaf blower. Rakes may be required for moving heavier objects; however, a leaf blower is an ideal tool for general upkeep. A stiff bristle broom can be used to “fluff” the high traffic areas. Besides this, you really won’t have to deal with maintenance.

We hope we’ve covered some key issues you may be considering when thinking about installing artificial turf in your yard. If you’ve got more questions, don’t be shy! Schedule an appointment with our San Jose showroom today.
