Time For Your Annual Artificial Grass Check-up

An annual check-up is a good thing. Most of us take ourselves and our kids off to the doctor for a check-up once a year, and we take our pet to the vet. We do an annual spring cleaning, to spruce up our home. It’s a form of preventive maintenance. So it makes perfect sense to perform an annual check-up around your home’s exterior and yard, including your artificial grass.

Although synthetic turf doesn’t require the kind of deep spring cleaning that natural grass does, an annual inspection is the easiest way to find and fix any small problems before they morph into something bigger. And that’s true whether you installed artificial grass as a lawn in front and back or as a play surface such as a backyard putting green or bocce ball court. A quick look-see now, and you can focus on outdoor fun the rest of the year, worry-free.

A little simple upkeep keeps things perfect

You probably chose artificial grass because of its sustainable qualities. You have a prettier (reliably prettier) yard, without wasting water or introducing harmful chemicals to our environment. But we know the minimal-maintenance factor was big, too. Who really wants to spend half their weekend tending to natural grass that is determined not to cooperate?

That said, even the best artificial grass needs a little attention now and then. But it’s as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Pick up any debris that lands on the grass as soon as possible, whether it’s blown in by the wind or dropped by your doggie. It takes just a minute, and there won’t be any organic matter to invite mold or smells. In the fall, when leaves and twigs are prevalent, you can gently rake the grass to remove debris. Or, if your lawn is large, you can use a power broom.
  2. Rinse with the hose -- immediately after poop pick-up or every month or so to wash away accumulated dust. Artificial grass drains and dries quickly, so your lawn will be back in action without missing a beat.
  3. Fluff up high traffic areas periodically using a stuff natural bristle brush.

This light-as-a-feather maintenance regimen also gives you a chance to inspect the turf as you work. With little effort, your artificial grass will last for 20 to 25 years, looking beautiful and serving you well throughout those years.

The grass is good, but there is more to do

You want to give your artificial grass an annual check-up to be sure it’s healthy – clean and pretty for another year. But, let’s be honest here. Lovely as your yard will look, you want to do more than look at it. You want to use it to the fullest when the weather is nice. So it’s also time to get out your outdoor yard games and equipment and give them their annual check-up, too.

What’s next?

Setting a date for your first outdoor soirée of the season. Who cares if you serve hot dogs and chips or a multi-course formal meal? It’s a get-together, and it’s outdoors. And your guests will be so impressed with your beautiful (and fun-ready) lawn they will wonder yet again why they haven’t replaced their natural grass with the numerous benefits of artificial grass.
